eDIY Software Newsletter 11th April 2006
Product Links
Some of you might have noticed a change in the links for products in your web site catalogues (if you're a
SHOP Plan customer). They're now a lot shorter, thanks to a updated
link filter in our web server, and therefore more keyword rich. W
e believe this
is a very good thing from a
search engine optimisation point-of-view. Now your domain name is followed directly by your product name
which ranks more highly in Google and we've already noticed an improvement in the
ranking for products hosted on several of our web
sites.
All this goes on behind the scenes and you don't have to do anything differently when you're managing products in your online catalogue. But if you want to look at the link for one of your products, select it from your browser (not in your eDIY software application) and you'll see it in the web browser's Address bar (the white box with text in it that usually begins "http://www....").
Google
Sitemaps
We're
always keen
to learn about anything
that will help us in the struggle to optimise your web site
performance in search engine results. With this objective in mind, we've recently been supporting a
new service from Google called Sitemaps.
If you're an eDIY customer, a Google SiteMap is automatically created for every content page and product in your web site and SiteMap statistics will soon be made available to you for keyword optimisation within the eDIY Site Control Panel, as well as web site referrer information and what search terms were used to find your web site.

Google's Sitemap program
provides detailed reports
of search queries returning pages from
and directing
traffic to your site
